| Description | The stamp commemorates that six ages ago the region Samogittia converted to Christianity and that the diocese of Samogitia was established.
The stamp shows bishop Motiejus Trakiskis (Maciej) and on the left side a fragment of the fresco 'Christening of Lithuania'. This fresco was painted by Włodzimierz Tetmajer (1861-1923) and can be found in the cathedral of Sosnowiec, Poland. Behind the bishop we see the silhouette of the church (now cathedral) of Šiauliai (Szawle) as it looked in the 19th century. Next to the stamp: a detail of the fresco. |
