Description | Painted about 1656. The rider is probably Marcjan Aleksander Ogiński. The painting was not completed by Rembrandt but by an unknown painter. It is now located in New York, in the Frick Collection. The famous Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn had many contacts with Polish noblemen. The Poles studied at the universities in Leiden and Franeker or they were teachers there. Rembrandt's wife was Saskia van Uylenburgh. Her sister Antje was married to Jan Makowski, professor at the University of Franeker. Rembrandt also made a portrait of the Polish ambassador to The Hague, Andrzej Rej.
