The stamp shows Paweł Frenkel, commander of the Jewish Military Organization (ZZW), against the
background of the building on Plac Muranowski that was set ablaze by the Germans. The Zionist and Polish flags raised by the ZZW fighters are visible on the roof. The Zionist flag now is the national Israeli flag. Frenkel’s image was recreated as described by surviviors.
The text "Flags over the Ghetto" is the title of a book, written by Moshe Arens. The picture of the burning houses originate from a photograph made on the Muranowski Square at the end of the Uprising. |
